Frequently
Asked Questions
Q.
Are all DJ’s the same?
A. No! Different DJ’s play and
perform differently. We have a versatile staff of disc jockeys, with
experience in many styles and types of music; therefore we can accommodate
any style requested. See our DJ's page. Q.
How long have you been in business? A.
On The Air Music Services was started in 1979 in Southern Ontario,
and in the Okanagan since 1994. Q.
How do we know if you’re any good?
A. Our track record of successful functions
speaks for itself; also we can provide you with many references throughout
the Valley. See our testimonials page.
Q. Do you carry any insurance?
A. Yes, all of our equipment is fully
insured as well as full liability insurance. Q.
Do you take and play requests? A.
Absolutely! We are there to play for you and your guests, so to ensure
we get more input from the crowd we put request sheets on the tables.
We do use our discretion with inappropriate or vulgar songs.
Q. What kind of music do you
have? A. We carry a wide
variety of everything from the 40’s to today’s hottest
hits. We subscribe to a music service which updates our songs monthly.
All of our music is also the radio edits, which are the clean versions.
Q.
Do we tip the DJ? A. Yes,
if you feel your disc jockey did an exceptional job, just as with
any service provider, 10-20% is the norm. Q.
How do the DJ’s dress? A.
Appropriately, depending on the type of event (ie. wedding - dress
pants, shirt and tie). Q.
Do you set up during the reception? A.
No! Never! We prefer to set up earlier in the afternoon prior to your
guest’s arrival. This allows us to do sound checks and take
care of any potential problems before they can happen. Q.
What kind of equipment do you use? A.
We have some of the best equipment available today, and we are constantly
updating to ensure you get quality sound and no equipment failures.
Better equipment allows the disc jockey to perform his job more effectively.
Q. Will
the DJ steal the ‘spotlight’ from the Bride & Groom?
A. Never! We feel that the focus should
be on the Bride and Groom and not on the DJ, everything we do or say
at receptions keeps that ‘spotlight’ on the newlywed couple.
Q. Can
we meet with you? A. Yes,
absolutely! We encourage couples to meet with us a few weeks prior
to the event, to discuss the final details and ensure we have the
proper selections that you require. Also we meet with many people
prior to booking with us, to give them peace of mind in knowing that
they are booking the best.
Q.
Who pays the music licensing fees?
A. We do and you do. We pay fees to
the A.V.L.A. (Audio Visual Licensing Agency), which allows us to use
licensed music for professional purposes. All of our music is licensed
by the A.V.L.A. and not downloaded. You pay a S.O.C.A.N. fee (society
of composers, and artist of Canada), which states that if you authorize
the performance of music then you are required to obtain the proper
license. Basically any music played requires a S.O.C.A.N. license,
whether it be a DJ, a band or a ghetto blaster. The fees are collected
through the establishments where the music is performed, not from
the performer. Q.
Do you provide music for ceremonies? A.
Yes. We can provide music for your ceremony whether it is held at
the same venue as your reception or at a different location.
Q. Can you
supply audio visual equipment? A.
Yes. We are already providing the music, as an added service
we can provide for you audio visual needs as well.(projectors, screens,
cordless mics) |
